What are Abfractions?
Abfraction is a phenomenon that cause your tooth to loose enamel and dentin around the gums to create a V shape indentation.
Abfraction sometimes can cause sensitivity because the nerve is less protected and can make the tooth weaker.
Brushing heavily your teeth with coarse toothpaste can cause abfraction. The way how your teeth are biting when you chew or grind them can also cause abfraction.
If not treated, a tooth with abfraction can get worse. To prevent the condition from worsening we can protect the tooth by placing a filling in the space.
With time the filling will break or chip and thus will need to be replaced.
